A pregnant woman experiences one of the most amazing physiological, psychological and emotional changes that occur in a woman’s lifespan. Although pregnancy is a natural process, some woman experience difficulty adjusting to these postural changes, such as back pain, numbness in the arms or hands, aching legs, swelling, pelvic joint pain, or the latent effects of previous trauma or disease.
Physical therapy can relieve some of these conditions and educate women about postural alternatives that will alleviate their symptoms. For example, when the body is in good alignment the uterus will rest in the pelvic cavity without straining the muscles, joints, and ligaments. Physical therapy can promote a healthy musculoskeletal system to reduce aches and pains caused by poor postural alignment.
Some postpartum women have difficulty returning to their normal physical state following pregnancy. Common complaints are diastasis recti abdominis, pelvic floor weakness, and pelvic joint pain. Our highly trained physical therapist will evaluate your musculoskeletal and fascial restrictions and develop a treatment plan that is best for you.
